Manic-ure: Boo! by Lovely Hello and Desert Island by Olivia T. Turner

This week’s manicure design is called Boo! and it’s by Lovely Hello, a company I came across recently. I love the little ghosties because I’m all about whimsical shit.

Since I have a short attention span, I especially like audiobooks that are less than three hours, although the ones under six aren’t bad in bite-sized chunks. Unless I’m driving, in which case I can listen for the whole trip. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of the shorter ones, including Desert Island, by Olivia T. Turner.

Olivia T. Turner writes smut. And it’s damned entertaining smut, too. Her stories are all over the top and that makes them so fun. The heroine is almost always a virgin, and a lot of the time, so is the hero. They are what we call “Virgin Pros” because everyone always seems to know exactly what to do with a minimum of discomfort, and everybody gets an O (you get an O! You get an O…). They are Instalove, or else the hero knew the heroine as a young girl and was completely appropriate, then he falls instantly in love with her as soon as he sees her grownup self. The hero is very happy that he’s the only one, and 99% of the time, he has a breeding kink. The sex is hotter than a dozen suns. You can count on these elements being in the mix in almost every single one of her books. And the formula works; many, many readers buy her books and I devour them like I do pretzels.

This particular book is of the Stranded On a Desert Island trope. The hero has been alone for eight years when the heroine washes up on shore. He takes one look at her and, spoiler alert: he realizes she would be his dream woman if he met her in a city full of people. The book is a guilty pleasure and totally fun.

I’ve heard better narration before, but it’s not bad. I’d give the audio a 4/5 and the book a 4.5/5.
