Each of Gedicke’s books is better than the last. Well, I think that until I reread, but Jumper is truly special. Jumper’s struggles with PTSD are the backbone of the story; the patience Jasmine shows is its heart’s blood. Gedicke presents Jumper’s struggles with compassion and realism. This is probably the most realistic fiction that I have ever read where the protagonist has PTSD. His issues do not miraculously disappear and he’s not suddenly cured, but the love of Jasmine helps support him through his journey. The romance is sweet and steamy and I think that this couple could really go the distance.
Gedicke’s greatest strength lies in her characters. Each is carefully drawn and layered. Her research game is no slouch either. Her research is meticulously detailed.
****spoiler alert****:
Jumper’s PTSD symptoms are not only night terrors and debilitating panic attacks. Jumper has issues with ED, and Jasmine is supportive and patient. Gedicke depicts his condition and their efforts to overcome it with sensitivity and accuracy. This is a topic rarely spoken of in a romance novel. Indeed, I’ve never seen it before, and I have read approximately a metric ton of romance novels. Jumper and Jasmine work through the problem while still keeping things steamy, and if that’s not a feat, I don’t know what is.
And fans of Scar will not be disappointed…. He says something really profound that tells a lot about how he views himself, and about how he thinks others view him, giving a little insight into his character.
****end of spoilers ****
One of the joys of this book is Jasmine’s bestie Sophia. She and Jasmine are friendship soulmates. And they are hysterically funny together, whether they are being detective ninjas, or whether Sophia is plotting Jumper’s potential murder. They remind me of Lucy and Ethel with a bit of Pinky and the Brain thrown in. I heart Sophia and I seriously want her to have her own book (and her own hot biker). Do you hear me, Elise? Pretty please?
